How are cufflinks made?

Let's dissect the artisanal world of enamel cufflinks, the epitome of bespoke English sartorial elegance.

Design Genesis: Whether sketched on parchment or birthed in CAD software, the first flourish comes with design. Transferred to a precious metal base like brass or silver, the stage is set.

Sculpting the Canvas: In designs necessitating hollows, laser cutters or jeweler's saws carve out negative space. This cradle is the future home for molten enamel.

Enamelling: The Crucible of Colour: Enamel—a sublime blend of silica, soda ash, and metal oxides—is the artist’s palette, brought to life via high-heat alchemy. In cut-out designs, cloisonné reigns supreme, achieved by soldering metal wires to the base before filling in the sections with enamel layers. Each layer is kiln-fired for consistency and brilliance.

Finishing Touch: A meticulous hand-polishing concludes the process, optionally adding protective layers or rear fixtures like chains or bars for attachment to shirt cuffs.

We have begun a pilgrimage through craftsmanship, enamelling, and final touches to create pieces that are not just cufflinks but sartorial statements.
